Now that you’ve decided to climb to the top of Africa, it’s time to get ready with the Proper Climb Kilimanjaro guide. We know planning your Kilimanjaro gear list can be a daunting task, so we’ve put together a comprehensive packing guide for you to follow! If you pack everything according to our Kilimanjaro gear list, you can be sure you’ll be fine on Mt Kilimanjaro.

Here is a list of essentials for a Kilimanjaro trek. Most can be purchased or rented from Moshi. Rental costs are between $100 and $200 depending on what you rent.

  • Fleece balaclava or Thermal balaclava

Trekking gear (wear between camps)

  • Rain suit or poncho (mainly used in the rain forest)
  • Rain Cover for the bags

  • Sun hat (peak caps do not offer enough protection)
  • Woolen socks

General gear & equipment

  • Waterproof Day Pack (20L to 40L, carried by the trekker)
  • Waterproof Duffel Bag or Waterproof Backpack (60L to 100L, carried by the porter, max 15kgs)
  • A small lock to lock the duffel bag
  • Walking stick (adjustable)
  • Sleeping Bag (Comfort Rating of -5° celsius)
