From Porter to Professional Mountain Guide
My name is Sele Saghware, and my journey in the tourism industry began on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.
I started my career as a porter, carrying equipment and supplies for climbers on Mount Kilimanjaro. I worked as a porter for 10 years, gaining valuable experience and learning about the mountain, its different routes, changing weather conditions, altitude challenges, and the importance of teamwork.
During those ten years, I learned directly from experienced mountain guides and developed a deep passion for helping visitors safely experience the beauty of Kilimanjaro. Working as a porter taught me discipline, patience, endurance, responsibility, and respect for the mountain and everyone working on it.
After 10 years as a porter, I decided to take the next step in my career and become a professional mountain guide. My experience as a porter gave me a strong foundation because I understood the challenges faced by both climbers and mountain crews. Today, I am proud to share my knowledge and experience with travelers from around the world. My goal is not only to help clients reach Uhuru Peak, 5,895 meters, but also to make their journey safe, enjoyable, and memorable.
