FULL ITINERARY

Our driver will meet you at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) and take you to your hotel in Moshi. Do not worry if you are slow clearing customs, our driver will be waiting for as long as necessary. After you settle in at your hotel, we will go through an equipment check with you. If any items are lacking, they can be rented at this time. Your guide will meet you for a thorough pre-climb briefing where all questions will be answered. For night time arrivals these things can be done the early the next morning.

Depart Moshi or Arusha early and drive to the Rongai Gate near the Kenyan border. After registration, begin your trek through a tranquil forest path, less trafficked than other routes. The trail is gently sloped and rich with birdlife, monkeys, and dense forest. You will arrive at Simba Camp on the edge of the moorland zone with stunning views of the plains below.

The trail ascends steadily through open moorland toward Second Cave. After a short break, continue through an increasingly rugged and remote landscape toward the Kikelewa Camp. The views of the Eastern Icefields on Kilimanjaro are breathtaking. This day provides good acclimatization and beautiful scenery.

A short but steep climb up grassy slopes leads you to a stunning camp beneath the jagged spires of Mawenzi Peak. Mawenzi Tarn sits in a sheltered cirque with striking views. This day offers dramatic scenery and is perfect for acclimatization. You’ll arrive in time for a hot lunch and optional acclimatization hike in the afternoon.

Cross the lunar-like Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, an expansive alpine desert. The landscape is stark but awe-inspiring. Upon reaching Kibo Hut, rest and prepare for the summit push. Eat an early dinner and try to sleep before the midnight ascent begins.

  • Habitat: Arctic to Moorland

Begin your summit attempt around midnight. The climb to Gilman’s Point (18,652 ft / 5,685 m) is steep and challenging. After a brief rest, continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak—the Roof of Africa. After reaching the summit, descend carefully to Kibo Hut for rest, then continue to Horombo Hut. This is the most physically and mentally demanding day of the trek.

Descend through the heath and rainforest zones, enjoying the lush environment and fresh mountain air. Arrive at Marangu Gate where you’ll sign out and receive your summit certificate. From there, a vehicle will transport you back to your hotel for a well-earned rest and celebration.

Breakfast at the hotel is included in the climb package. Our driver will be available at any time to take you to Kilimanjaro Airport. If you have booked a safari, we typically will leave just after breakfast. Checkout time at the hotel is 10am. If you have a flight departing later in the day, we will try to obtain a late checkout for you or arrange for a day room if you desire.
