ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK
ARUSHA NATIONAL PARK
Arusha National Park offers a rare blend of wildlife viewing and stunning landscapes in a compact setting. Unlike larger parks, Arusha’s diversity shines through in a single day—featuring flamingo-filled Momella Lakes, black-and-white colobus monkeys in the forest, and giraffes grazing in open savannah. A canoe ride or walking safari brings you up close to nature, making it a perfect short escape that still feels wild and immersive.
FULL ITINERARY
Your day begins with a scenic drive from your accommodation to Arusha National Park, located about 1.5 hours from Moshi or just 45 minutes from Arusha town. As you ascend towards the park gate, enjoy views of lush hills, local farms, and the mighty Mount Meru in the distance.
Once inside, embark on a guided game drive through the park’s diverse habitats—open grasslands, montane forests, and lakes. Look out for giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, baboons, and, if lucky, leopards or elephants. This park is also home to the striking black-and-white colobus monkey and over 400 bird species including flamingos near the Momella Lakes.
Stretch your legs with a guided walking safari accompanied by an armed ranger. Walk along forest trails to spot wildlife up close and learn about the ecosystem from your guide. Alternatively, opt for a peaceful canoeing experience on Momella Lake, gliding past flocks of flamingos with views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru.
Enjoy a packed picnic lunch at one of the park’s beautiful picnic spots, often overlooking a crater, lake, or wide savannah. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and soak in the tranquil atmosphere.
After lunch, continue with your game viewing, heading toward the Ngurdoto Crater—an ancient caldera rich in wildlife and stunning landscapes. Marvel at its lush, steep walls and spot animals grazing in the crater floor.
Begin your drive back to your hotel, reflecting on the incredible wildlife encounters and natural beauty of this hidden gem of Tanzania.
You’ll be dropped off at your accommodation in the early evening, completing your enriching day in one of Tanzania’s most underrated but stunning parks.
You’ll head back to Moshi feeling refreshed, culturally enriched, and deeply connected to Kilimanjaro’s land and people.
